Profile
"I am an enthusiastic young man with an eye for design and the perseverance to tackle anything with which I am confronted. More importantly I am able to adapt to all kinds of work and work environments. I work well with others, or on my own steam and am eager to begin and see tasks through to completion."
Personal Information
- Nationality: British
- Age: 25
- Place of Birth: Northern Ireland, Londonderry
Education
I have a matriculation certificate (South African school leaving qualification) from Westville Boys' High School, 3 A-Levels from Cambridge House Grammar School (Ballymena), and a BSc (Hons) Interactive Multimedia Design Dip. Industrial Studies from the University of Ulster (Jordanstown)
Professional Experience
I have worked, prior to, during and following my degree in the field of Multimedia, particularly web design. At home both on the creative and technical side of multimedia design, I have worked mainly for myself under the moniker of coalduststar designs, providing my services for local businesses in Ballymena. I have also worked in places such as the Higher Education Academy (formerly the LTSN) in Information and Computer Sciences (ICS), as the web designer for the Centre for Media Research (CMR) as well as a part-time lecturer in Media Arts for the University of Ulster, Coleraine. Currently I am currently working for the University of Ulster as New Media/IT Systems Development Officer and am in charge of implementing a redesign of the Faculty of Arts web systems.
These experiences have helped me to become more adept in my discipline(s) and helped me to hone my skills to become more efficient in the work place while taking into consideration current issues affecting design (e.g. Accessability, HCI principles and learning the latest iterations of top design software), and finding innovative ways to meet good design and robust programming in coherence with the demands of the ever-growing standardisation of the web.

Interests and Activities
Music is a huge passion of mine and I am a member of a band called Jackalfeud. We have released two recordings and there is another one on the way in 2007. This has helped create an understanding of product development and marketing and how it relates to design. I love listening to music, playing guitar and especially enjoy performing with the band in front of people, as this is the ultimate single expression of communication and synchronicity.
I enjoy travelling and have been on safari through Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe as well as visiting Mauritius, Spain and Holland. It is interesting to experience these different cultures and see how they compare to your own, or where you are living. This helps create an understanding and appreciation of these places and your own home. I enjoy working out regularly at the gym and of course designing creative multimedia for recreational purposes.
